THE BELLY LIBERATION CHOIR (EN)
Graduation project, 2022

Our current beauty ideal asks women to compress their bellies; a belly nowadays needs to be flat. Yet, belly compression causes disastrous processes within the female body; it disables women to breathe deeply toward their lower belly. 

This results in chest breathing which causes a fight or flight reaction, which creates a serious amount of stress within the female body. Whenever women aren’t able to release their stress and it remains within the body, it might even become chronic.

The solution of this problem begins with he liberation of the female belly, we need to break with the imposed compression-obsession. Therefore, I am initiating a movement in order to liberate the female belly: The Belly Liberation Choir.

The video above is the case video for this concept. In collaboration with videographer Max Blom we created the video during a very rigid lockdown. The editing, art direction, spoken word, concept and research are all done by me.
